Selection of Research Projects and Areas of Interest

In selecting research projects, the FREPD pays special attention to the critical areas of development education with the focus on the central problem of developing and harnessing the human capital for productive purposes.

In undertaking research studies the FREPD has been actuated by the perception of the following areas of priority concern to the nation:

  1. Special needs of the disadvantaged groups like the rural poor, urban slum-dweller, destitute women and children;
  2. Changes in the educational system/sub-systems in order to link them meaningfully and effectively with the world of work;
  3. Role of non-formal and life-long education in social and economic transformation;
  4. Designing technological education to meet the changing needs of an economy in transition;
  5. Employment-oriented education including possible changes in employment and wage structures;
  6. Institutional arrangements conducive to planning and development of education and resource management at the local levels;
  7. Cost effectiveness and cost benefit relations in education with the concept of cost and benefit including non-monetary components;
  8. Internal efficiency and wastage in the educational system and related problems.

Furthermore, situation analysis and assessment studies in such disciplines as health, employment and technology, social welfare etc, which have a close correlation with education also form an area of special interest for the FREPD.
